"Scuze Me While I Kiss this GuY"
Thursday night we went out to support our friends Alexander Noe & Matt Rowean on their collaborative art exhibition @ the Mina Galley in Cooper Sq. Alexandra Richards (daughter of Keith) also had her rock inspired paintings showcased - & we have to say they were all pretty frickin awesome (see above pic). The space was chock full of what SDSG refers to as "the beautiful peoples", all mulling around gawking at each others pretty mugs. Tons of stunnies, free booze, bomb tracks & fine art. Hipster heaven guy.

Obama's Speech Last Night
Once again President Obama showed his rare ability to discern his positions on both large and fundamental things while expressing his thoughts with the utmost clarity.
A few highlights for me came when he said "No more dropping out of school... those days are over. You are not only quitting on yourself, but you are quiting on your country and we need you." Americans need accountablity & this was another example of the President asking for it. Also, when he stated "America does not and will not torture." The world needed to hear that as well as the people who live here.
"The politics and rhetoric were superb, but all that matters is whether he can pull this off. The results are all that matter now. He has this moment; it could make him and the rest of us. It could destroy him or us. It's our job in this crisis to support him and to criticize him constructively. We need to rise to the occasion he is rising to. And maybe most of us will."

Oscar Thoughts
I really liked this years show. Although it ran close to 3 1/2 hours, I was thoroughly entertained throughout most of the telecast. Hugh Jackman had a perfect mix of humor, confidence & flat out showmanship. Penelope's Cruz's speech got the show off to a nice start with a heartfelt speech (her sexy Spanish accent didn't hurt either). Best presenters had to be Tina Fey and Steve Martin. Laugh out loud funny. Ben Stiller doing Joaquin Phoenix was hilarious. And how bout them lovely ladies? They all looked amazing, especially my favorite Natalie Portman (is there a more beautiful girl on the planet? Probably not.) It was def. cool how this years award show had former winners personally introduce each nominee by giving them credit for their work past and present.
All in all it seems the academy got it right this year with their selections. Senn Penn for best Actor? Check. Man On Wire for best documentary. Check. Slumdog Millionaire best movie. Check. 2009 Academy awards. Check mate.

Last night SDSG attended a Gen Art "Collector Circle" event @ the Mixed Greens Gallery, featuring the works of the East Village based artist Leah Tinari. Her paintings can be described as "party art", where she takes photos of people wildin' out & then paints the images in her own unique way. Really cool

Today's NY Post cartoon is absolutely terrible. How the Post's Idiot-In-Chief didn't kill this before it went print, I have no idea. I'm pretty sure the comic's intent was to show that the Obama / Stimulus plan was on par with the intelligence of a monkey, but how could he not have not figured people are uber sensitive to the black male / monkey stereotype & that people from all walks of life would be extremly offended by his bigoted depiction??
"It's also extemely offensive how it plays into the troubled relations between the police and minorities. What is it?..A year after Sean Bell, 6 months after they tazed a mentally ill guy off a building & here they are depicting the shooting death of a "monkey who wrote the stimulus bill?"
You bet the Posts office is being inundated w/ emails this AM.
Bad news bears.

Just Plain Angry
Steroids suck. No. They f-ing really suck. We can't even enjoy the game of baseball anymore. Alex Rodriguez was supposed to be the guy who did it the right way. Our clean savior. Turns out he's a fraud like the rest of the BALCO boys (and a vast amount of other unamed players). I guess it shouldn't really come as a surprise, when you look at all players he was surrounded by in Texas - Palmero, Pudge, Canseco. All cheats.
Now you have to question whether he even stands a chance at entering the Hall of Fame. I would hope so. If he can come out and support causes that teach kids not to take performance enhancing drugs - that's a good first step. Then he should request he be tested once a month for both HGH (which they don't test for) and other banned substances. Finally, he's gonna have to start producing in the post-season and win championships. Maybe after all that - 9 years from now he can look back and have something to be proud of. Today is not that day

Clementine: This is it, Joel. It's going to be gone soon.
Joel: I know.
Clementine: What do we do?
Joel: Enjoy it.
SDSG Grammy Thoughts
First and foremost, not enough rock n' roll. When you have a band like the Kings of Leon in the house & they don't perform, somethings wrong. I thought Radiohead absolutely killed. In Rainbows should've won album of the year. Chris Martin w/ Jay-Z was pretty darn tight. M.I.A...I'm sorry honey, I love you, but you should not have been up on that stage. The rest of the "Rap Pack's" performance was awesome, but your belly was just too darn distracting.
We digress....
Dave Grohl playing w/ Paul McCartney was super cool -as was Neil Diamond singing "Sweet Caroline" - guy can still own the stage w/ the best of em'. Blink 182 announcing "they're back" was underwhelming to say the least. Miley Cirus...embarrassingly bad. I have now idea how this girl has gotten to where she is today. That goes for the Jonas Brothers as well. Overall - just not that impressed. Maybe next year Chris Brown & Rhianna can join the party and add some much needed drama.

" Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could."
52!
Ri-dic-ulous. The second best player in the NBA put on an offensive clinic last night at the Garden, scoring a whopping 52 points in the process. This of course comes on the heels of Kobe Bryant's record shattering 61 point performance two nights earlier. Coach Mike D'Antoni seems to think it's the result of his teams lackluster play...I say you can't stop these guy's Mike, only hope to contain em. Contain em' they did not.
"James added 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the Cavs’ 107-102 win to become the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975 to have a 50-point triple-double, and he joined Michael Jordan as the only player to have mutiple 50-point games in the present MSG."
Is it 2010 yet?

Langerado 09' Cancelled
"The 2009 Langerado Music Festival has been cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales. Langerado’s independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.
"Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains,“Langerado has always put the fan experience first. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it’s become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time.”

"Today, as I was bringing my 3 year old daughter back from daycare, she asked me where her dad was. I tried to explain that I was her father, but she answered "Not you, my other Daddy!". I've got some talking to do tonight... FML"
"Today, I saw a friend in the street but he didn't see me, so as a joke I decided to ring him. He took his mobile out of his pocket, sighed and didn't pick up. FML"

My Favorite Superbowl XLIII Moment
What a game! Didn't think another could tops last years Superbowl, but this one has to rank up there with the best of em'. The halftime performance by the Boss was just as huge, capped off with a hilarious knee slide that will live in Youtube infamy.
Now begins the post football season blues. Giants in 2010 baby!
