Obama's Speech Last Night

Photobucket

Once again President Obama showed his rare ability to discern his positions on both large and fundamental things while expressing his thoughts with the utmost clarity.

A few highlights for me came when he said "No more dropping out of school... those days are over. You are not only quitting on yourself, but you are quiting on your country and we need you." Americans need accountablity & this was another example of the President asking for it. Also, when he stated "America does not and will not torture." The world needed to hear that as well as the people who live here.

"The politics and rhetoric were superb, but all that matters is whether he can pull this off. The results are all that matter now. He has this moment; it could make him and the rest of us. It could destroy him or us. It's our job in this crisis to support him and to criticize him constructively. We need to rise to the occasion he is rising to. And maybe most of us will."

Suprise Suprise I disagree 100%.

I'm glad you are inspired by words and talking. I've actually taken the time and read a lot of the stimulus package, and to make any claim of Bi-Partisanship is horseshit at best. He's paying back big unions and big gov't agencies for supporting him, and it's a kickback. People claimed Bush "fear mongered", and in a lot of ways he did. Obama, Pelosi abd others are using fear to implement every damn Big Liberal, Big government idea they've had in the last 40 years.

I don't have the time or ability to write in words the FlatOut bureucratic Bullshit going on with MY LAND in Maine. Nash family has owned for 40 years. Bob Nash bought when he was young 20's. Now because of " stimulus", we have a Gov't agency from Mass, coming up to our land, and telling US how can and can't manage our land.
Understand Bob Nash has certified Tree Farms on his property, and has planted more trees and done more for the overall environment up there, than the hacks from Mass have EVER done. Telling US what we can and can't do...from their effing apartments in cambridge.

I'm going to agree to disagree with you. We have completely different views on how gov't should be involved in our lives. You believe, as do most Obama supporters, that Gov't can get us out of this mess. I despised Bush'
s wreckless spending, and I despise this. I believe Gov't corruptness, greed and Stupidity GOT US INTO THIS MESS.

WallStreet greed and wrecklessness is ABSOLUTELY to blame also.

We need private markets, sustained tax cuts, accountability, and the F*CKING GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR LIVES.

I want the man, the county, all of us to succeed.

But excuse me if I'm not worshipping at the Altar of Lord Obama yet.

Guy,

Republicans held the majority for the past 8 years. Their liaise fair’ policies got us into this mess (along with a host of other triggers). Unchecked corporate America / Wall Street led to the greed that ultimately created the housing / credit crisis.

Obama said it best - he doesn’t believe , nor do for that matter I that big government is the answer. Accountability is the answer. No more "lavish curtains or private jets for the banks." Time for things to be checked. Time for things to be transparent.

As far as officials telling your family how to run your land. I’m not sure how they can legally do that…. So I cannot comment.

In re: to Gov’t spending: I seriously cannot understand how you think we’re supposed to come out of this mess without the aid of our gov’t / taxpayers funds. The country needs an influx of money into a ton of different programs in the worst way. Sure, is the pork in the stimulus bill ? Yes. But the majority of $$ is going where it should. Back into the building of America’s infrastructure.

Last night our President laid out his vision in a clear an precise manner. You may not agree with his policies – but I’m pretty sure you want him / us to succeed - and that that reps from both sides of the aisle work to get us there.

No one is worshipping at the alter of Obama. Only praying for our President to lead the way.

respect

You still think this is a Republican/Democrat issue?

And you are completely over the deep end with your love affair for Obama. Pretty soon he won't be judge on the great speeches he gives. But results. And the markets have responded with a resounding NO to his economic approach so far.

Do yourself a favor and research the likes Barney Frank/Chris Dodd and their involvement with Fannie and freddie> You flat out don't know what you are talking about if you believe Republicans are the only ones to blame. It started in the Clinton Admin. Janet Reno. And continued on for years. Dems and Reps', forcing banks to make suspect loans. They threatened to sanction them, fine them or flat out close them down, if they didn't comply. When someone makes $50,000 a year, they PROBABLY shouldn't buy a $500,000 house. And that shit happened. And then the clowns who FORCED the loans, are claiming it was "predatory" and the people didn't know. WHat they can't f*cking read? ACCOUNTABILITY.

Who is Obama to tell any private company what they can and can't do? I don't like them flying around in private jets either. And if they take TARP money they shouldn't. What pisses me off more? Nancy Pelosi is the only speaker of the house to Ever have their own private jet. WHo do you think pays for that?

IF you don't think gov't environmental agencies haven't been doing or trying to do, with what's going on in Maine... then you need to start paying attention more.

I respect your POV. But we couldn't be farther apart in our approach. Which is what it's all about. Makes the world go round.

Go get some.

Bro we all want what's best. But you are going to be gravely dissappointed if you don't think i'll voice my concerns. I had many problems with Bush. MANY. I really hate career politicians, and we need to clean DC up.

Brother-I truly don't mean to sound like I have all the answers, nor do I think the way I "think" is "right". And surely don't want to come across as talking down to anyone. We are a lot different. BUt we both want the best.

And you should of seen the DAPER threads the kid had on last night for Fat Tuesday. Purple feather hat?

SLI? OH you think so!

Wow, quite a conversation here. If I can chime the Nancy Pelosi thing isn't right. Dennis Hastert had jet and she asked about the rules which applied. You can check the details here. http://www.snopes.com/politics/pelosi/jet.asp
It's hard to talk to all the points you guys have brought up. Tnash I'm not cheerleader for Obama nor do I clump myself in with any party line. I do though think that Obama is taking a practical approach to getting the nation on track. I’m not sure the full extent of your views so it’s hard to really talk to your points. I go to work just the same as I did before Obama and I proceed with my day all the same. When you say “You [Bret] believe, as do most Obama supporters, that Gov't can get us out of this mess.” It leads me to believe you think that there is someone else that is going to make the decisions to fix this crisis or that somehow Obama should not take any action here.
Obama has created a plan and a stimulus package that is basically designed to give the infrastructure of the country a booster shot during these hard times. In regards to Obama’s speeches I don’t understand the correlation between there validity and the market’s response to them. We’ve already established that Wall Street is greedy and crooked right? They stand to make money when there is a corner to cut (like an innovating new technology) or someone to short change right? So unless Obama was announcing a 900 billion dollar big business tax cut program or a 500billion dollar bank bail out or the invention of a new dilithium crystal ipod that can power your car and house with I don’t see how wall street was ever expected to rebound based on his speech.
It’s seems to me that Obama is putting things in place for infrastructure strengthening. I don’t think there is any union pay offs or back door hand shakes going on but please feel free to point that out to me.
I don’t mean to come at your in a confrontation fashion just to highlight a different take of the situation.

~ respect.

Great overall points girl. It's always friendly banter.

I believe the private citizens of this country WILL always trump ANYTHING the gov't can do. MAke incantives for people to invest. Sustained tax cuts, Not talk about raising capital gain taxes. Or talk of taxing individual 401k's. Some gov't intervention is needed. My point, the gov't CAUSED many of these issues. This country has enjoyed it's best times, with sustained tax cuts, and limited spending and limited gov't involvement.

"I don’t think there is any union pay offs or back door hand shakes going on but please feel free to point that out to me. "

MSG- you probably thought Bush pandered to his oil cronies? A lot of ways he did. Absolutely, and I called it out then, and I'll call it out now. You need to see the stimulus bill. Understand the monies are going to the people who supported him the most, Unions, etc. You scratch my back, i'll scratch yours. You are a smart girl, you have to know No Politician is above that.

The Markets weren't suppose to rally, they are looking for direction. And Tim Geithner gave one of the most unprepared talks on the hill I have ever heard. He had no direction, and couldn't tell you the simpliest of things.

The markets aren't crooked. There are crooked people in the market. The markets have survived World Wars, Depression,Multiple recessions, plagues, natural disasters, Terrorism, and many other factions. The private markets have also yielded a WAY greater return in your capital, than any false promise the gov't will give ya.

Denny hastert is a clown too. And i misspoke on my previous statement. You are correct. He was flown in a military jet, with direct correlation tied to Sept11, and the actions we needed to take.

I like it when "people" put quoatation marks around insignificant "words" to make it look like they have done their "research." But more realistically it just makes those words look like "they" are implying something "else" which may or may not be "factual." I "choose" not to "vote", but what I'm really saying is I "prefer" not to "bang dudes."
