See ya out there...

"The real reason I don't have to tune or break strings is because of the pact I made with the Devil. That's just one of the clauses in the pact with the Devil... Actually, contract negotiations for artists have improved since Robert Johnson. You gotta have a good lawyer when you're dealing with the Devil. My contract is way better than Robert Johnson's."

Great Lefsetz Review

Of the Allman & Doobie Brothers show at the Greek Theatre in LA a few nights ago.

"Last night, while fewer Americans than you would think were watching has-beens trying to cling to fading fame on television, tying themselves to two-dimensional singers looking for the standard rich and famous contract, a band of seven players was doing the same thing they’ve been doing for forty years, through thick and thin…playing music, exploring inner and outer consciousness, blowing the roof off the joint."

Enjoy!

Memorial Day 09' | A Look Back

First and foremost, this post is dedicated to all of our troops both past and present. SDSG salutes you! To celebrate our men & women in uniform, we found out ourselves in CT for the weekend...& what a weekend it was. Early Saturday we spent time on our friends boat straight chillin. The conditions on the water were too windy to go out, so we never left the the harbor - but that was fiiine by us. Post boat session was spent driving around looking for all-stars to hang out with, but with all of em' now apparently obsessed with the game of golf, this proved to be more a difficult task than expected (three days in a row guys!??) As night fell, we were lucky to meet up with a bevy of lovely ladies who helped turn things right around. A 'Girl Talk' jam session ensued & was followed up by a trip to the local bar > a late late night dance party at DD's casa.

Waking up Sunday afternoon, the sun was out in full force & the temp was topping 85 degrees. Thats niice. After hanging out with juan batista, Nash and I ended up driving through the backroads of Wilton / Redding headed up towards a friends party in Newtown. The drive was an awesome one & made me realize how truly special country livin' is. It was also funny, cause if not for my trusty iphone's GPS, we may not have ever made it up there at all (crazy crazy roads). At the fiesta, we were greeted with some good ol' BBQ, jungle juice, drinking games, bomb tracks and a rain storm of epic proportions (goods thing it only lasted 20 min) Heading out of the party proved more difficult than expected - and this guy felt the wrath of the crazy ladies in our car as a result. No bother. We finally made it out & ended up partyin it up into the wee hours (although me sipping tequila from the bottle probably was not the best idea) Monday was all about the pool. After a multi hour pool-sesh-one, we boarded a train back into NYC. If only every weekend could be this good.

SDSG Weekend | Music Recap

Things kicked off @ Sullivan Hall Friday night, where we went to see one of our all time guitar hero's, Chris Michetti. For all of you who've never heard of this guy, he is / was the guitarist of the band Raq & he shreds. He's been performing his own material as of late (a cross between Van Halen & Jeff Beck) and we've been blasting it @ SDSG worldwide for a while now. The show was predictably badass, but with a headcount of only 15-20 people in the venue, the vibe was a bit off. Whatever. Chris's shite is that good & we will continue show up to support em' every time he comes around. For your own listening pleasure go to ChrisMichetti.com

Saturday we joined some good friends at the Fillmore to see two of our favorite acts, the Marco Benevento Trio and Tea Leaf Green. Marco's like a mad scientist behind the keys, taking full advantage the many effect pedals he's got hooked in. With Reed Mathis on double bass duty (both with Marco & TLG) and Brad Barr on the skins, the rhythm section was held down in the bestest of ways. Highlights during his set included the "Real Morning Party" and a sweet cover of My Morning Jackets "Golden". Check out this great write up on Benevento's sound via NY Times

Up next was Tea Leaf Green, who gets my vote as the best band to come out of the jamband scene in recent memory. I've been fortunate to see these guys around 5-6 times & every time I do they just keep getting better and better. Call it cliche, but good bands always rise to the occasion when playing NYC. They got the place rocking with staples like " Don't Curse @ the Night" and the Garden Part I. Good time great oldies.

Phishy Friday - Clifford Ball | The Curtain

Best part about this clip is Trey giving a shout out to a guy in the front row who apprently held down his his dead center / front row seat every single show of the tour. As Trey said.. " I don't know how you do it man!?"

**Update** - My co-worker just told me he's good buddies with the guy Trey points out. The fan wrote about the whole experience here on Hidden Track

Floridaze 09' - A Retrospective

Yup, Josh's bachelor throwdown was that good. Personal highlights include (but are nowhere near limited to) Tim showing up at the airport with a cooler full of budweisals, a fresh bowlpack and big ol'smile (Kid comes as advertised). Sunshine for (4) days straight, with temps hovering around 90 degrees. Striking out numerous times with the local ladies at a college dive bar (hey, can't win if you don't play). Taking things to ridiculous levels on Saturday; complete with poolside stunnie tossing, beach cruising, BBQ'ing, vaporizing nonsense (that would be the PC version). Sunday was all about multiple trips to the beach > repeated pool sessions > kicking out guests who overstay their welcome> heady cookies > a reggae bash @ the harbor > lamping on the couch & watching clips of Saturdays absurdities > see ya next time.
