Health Care Reform Bill Passes
So the bill finally went through. We can certainly see both sides of the coin. On one side you have the 35 million Americans who have no insurance and if / when they get sick ,they basically are shit out of luck & have to pay ridiculous amounts for their medical bills. We 100% agree that no one should lose there home or livelihood because they get sick.
Reform is / has been needed.
However, the other side of the coin is: Why should I / we have to pay for those individuals health care? I don't get sick very often and I take care of myself. The fact that my taxes will now go up & will basically be helping paying for this massive overhaul is troubling to say the least. Also, what happens when everyone has the same / generic plan? Will I be able to get to see my doctor of choice in a timely manner or will I be just a # waiting in a never ending line? So may questions remain.
Today without a doubt is an historic one. For better or worse remains to be seen.

SDSG 2010 Hall of Fame Induction Review
So Phish / Trey inducted Genesis into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame last night. Don't know about you readers, but we were cringing the whole time. Although they picked one of the harder and more complex Genesis songs to open with ( Watcher in the Skies) - Trey's out of tune vocals were just too much for this viewer. It's a bummer because half the people in the room had probably never heard or seen Phish, & this was a terrible introduction to the band we consider the best in the world.
Although endearing, Trey looked nervous as hell while giving his speech & by way of reading of a teleprompter - felt contrived (Wyclef even gave him a subtle dig when he said - I don't need a teleprompter to talk about Jimmy Cliff)
After the band was formally inducted, Phish played 'No Reply at All' - which once again had Trey leading the way with his out of tune vocals ( why didn't Page sing this song?) It was at this point we turned the sound off. Just couldn't take it anymore. The only thing that could of saved out boys was a a giant Fluffhead bustout. But it was not to be.
The Stooges were up next and thank god. Iggy is seriously out of his mind. But that's what makes him one of the greatest performers ever. He had a great line. " Music is life. And life is not a business. Nice! Thought the end jam of 'I Wanna be Your Dog' was cool with the people jumping around onstage.
Next up was David Geffen. Great acceptance speech. This coming from the man who truly changed how the business of music evolved. The fact that he started in the mailroom a William Morris an ended being the icon he is is what it is all about people. Loveed his line about not having any talent. The only talent he had hes said " was seeing it in other people"
But the all out winner of the night was 100% Jimmy Cliff. WOW. The man speech was endearing and his performance absolutely stole the show. Loved hearing the Harder they Come and watching all the people crowd get down.

Monday Blues: Check + Weekend Recap
Anyone else have a serious case of Mondayitis? After 3 straight days of pouring rain, things are feeling a little blue around SDSG headquarters. To pick us back up, we need not look any further than Friday night's Soulive show at the Bowl w/ guests Marco Benevento, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Oteil Burbridge and the London Souls. For a recap - I defer to the Soulive blog Sick Sick time!
Saw Alice in Wonderland on Saturday. Thought it was alright.. 2 1/2 SDSG stars. Although Helena Bonham Carter and Johny Depp delivered awesome performances, I thought the movie lacked the mysterious / dark components that made the cartoon version so great. Definitely worth seeing - as watching films in 3D are all the rage these days.
Sunday took a walk around the city with our lovely lady and her pops who's up from Florida visiting. A highlight included a stop over at the rare books section in the Strand Book store. Didn't even know it was there but looking at books, some of which are 300 years old was pretty cool. Definitely plan on going back soon
This week we have a lot of exciting stuff on the books. Tonight Phish is performing at the Rock n Roll hall of fame covering a few songs / inducting Genesis. Tomorrow we're going to see the Broadway show Rock of Ages. Wednesday the Brooklyn bowl is showing U2 3D throughout the day. Thursday our boy Keller Williams is playing the Bowl. All friends / family of SDSG are welcome to join for some bowling / rocking. Friday? Not sure yet - but this week has to end on good note.

A Friend Remembered : Lee Pierucci
Ten years ago today we lost one of the good one's in Lee Pierucci. Lee and I grew up together in Wilton CT, starting off in Kindergarten > Graduation. Lee was one of those peoples you could always count on to make you laugh & was the kind of person who would drive across town to get you home after school (because your parents had taken away the car).
Now Lee might not have been the bestest athlete in school - but man did he make up for it with a blazing tenacity and unbridled will to succeed. He played Varsity baseball and football and he played it well.
They say nothings ever promised tomorrow today. So go tell a friend, family member, someone you love how much they mean to you. Lee would be proud you did.
Cheers to you pal!
