Today would have marked Frank Zappa's 70th birthday. Although we've never fully dived into his catalogue, there is no doubt the man made a huge mark on music while he was here.

It's funny, but when we think of Zappa the first thing that comes to mind is of him testifying before congress on the censorship of music.. & just owning the whole proceedings. Tipper Gore never knew what hit her.

Happy Birthday Frank.
Older cousins ADORE Zappa. I enjoy a lot of his stuff, don't understand a lot, and have not heard a lot. But make no mistake. Bands like Phish took SOOOOOO Much from Zappa. He was way a head of his time. He's truly brilliant, and his band was so tight. Some of his stuff defined WEIRD, and other tunes like "muffin man" would make the boys in Slayer smile.
Zappa is one of the artists where you might not truly know, understand or listen to that much. But IF you want to call yourself a fan of art, a fan of music, a fan of Originality/being authentic...you appreciate what Zappa did. you simply have to

"I never set out to be weird. It was always other people who called me weird. "

"Most people wouldn't know music if it came up and bit them on the ass. "

"You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer. "
